17th Avenue — Uptown
|
This has been nicknamed "The Red Mile" from the annual Calgary Flames' NHL playoff series where thousands gather to celebrate their favorite hockey team. This scenic neighborhood and upscale shopping district is just south of downtown on 17th Avenue between 4th and 14th St. SW. It's one of the trendier places to shop, eat, and drink, away from the sterile big chains in the malls. The avenue is alive at all hours of the day, especially on weekends. It hosts hundreds of boutiques, cafes, bars and clubs, bistros, restaurants, bookstores and art galleries. Do turn off 17th Ave. and head north up 11th St., for more stores as well.

4th Street & Mission District
|
The Mission district encompasses an area of exciting restaurants, specialty stores and coffee shops. The Fourth Street shopping area extends from 12th Ave. SW, south to Elbow Drive SW. Besides The Lilac Festival, the area is well known for its restaurants, art galleries, clothing, gift and specialty shops.

Calgary Eaton Centre — TD Square — Scotia Centre

An indoor walkway system spread over four bright and spacious levels, connects a five-block downtown shopping complex that includes: The Bay, Calgary Eaton Centre, TD Square, Bankers Hall, Scotia Centre and Penny Lane Mall. This is the place to shop if you're looking to go upscale and trendy.

Chinook Centre

Located south of Downtown, at 6455 Macleod Trail South, this is one of Calgary's largest shopping malls with hundreds of stores of every kind, as well as restaurants, and services - The Bay, Sears, Zellers, Famous Players Paramount Theatre to name a few. This is the wonderland mall of Calgary, a paradise for Calgarian “shopaholics”.

Eau Claire Market

Located at the northern edge of downtown, and gateway to beautiful Prince's Island Park, Eau Claire Market offers visitors fun shopping, high-end dining, and entertainment, and a unique selection of retailers not usually seen in suburban malls, including specialty stores dedicated to children's and women's clothing, imported art and handicrafts, and extraordinary gifts. Eau Claire is a popular summer place; the Market also has several buskers, clowns and other performers. Visit neighboring Prince's Island Park, or rent rollerblades or stroll the river-side bike paths.

Inglewood District

A charming trendy shopping area just east of downtown featuring antiques, home décor and furnishings, gift, clothing, and book stores, and restaurants. Inglewood is one of Calgary's oldest neighborhoods, and is located near Fort Calgary and The Deane House. The shopping is on the main street, 9th Ave. SE, starting at 8th Ave. SE. Take some time to stroll around the side streets, and look at the neighborhood, which is full of restored homes.

Kensington
|
Kensington is another favorite "urban village" area like 17th Avenue, and is located at the junction of 10th St. NW and Memorial Dr. NW between 9th and 14th St. NW. This part of Calgary is the “artsy” alternative shopping area where you will find clothing and home décor stores, bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants, theatre, and shops galore.

Market Mall

With over 200 stores, Market Mall is one of Calgary's largest shopping attractions, located in the heart of the northwest at Shaganappi Tr and 32nd Ave. Market Mall is the destination for all your fashion and lifestyle needs. Be ready to spend a whole day here.

Southcentre Mall

At the corner of Macleod Trail and Anderson Road, this bright and airy mall boasts over a 100 top retailers as well as The Bay and Sears. This is south Calgary's most popular shopping destination.

Stephen Avenue Walk
|
Stephen Avenue Walk, in the heart of the downtown, is a National Historic District boasting hundreds of cool little shops and facilities including some of Calgary's finest restaurants, cafes and pubs. Stephen Avenue is one of the oldest streets in town, still paved in cobblestone. It's closed to normal vehicle traffic, so in the summer months there are usually street vendors everywhere.
